This bakery also sells their products at the St Jacobs Farmers Market, from which these items were purchased. One of my regular baked goods suppliers was going to St Jacobs and spotted this seller in the market's new building; more specifically, the slice of apple crumble (Dutch apple?) pie, which he absolutely had to have because it looked that good, no matter if it had been reviewed or not. Turns out it hadn't. Yay, more bakeries for me! ^-^
Stone Crock specializes in old-fashioned, home-style baking, ranging from pies and squares to buns, cookies and butter tarts. Whether or not if it's the same in-store, one notable product is their generous slices that seem a cross between a square and pie, with pie-shell bottoms, fruit fillings, and delicious crumble on top. At the very least, this attracted some attention, especially to the aforementioned apple cake, with its caramel crumble on top. This being the highlight, it tasted as good as it looked: delicious topping and perfectly cooked and spiced apples. At last, a classic apple pie done right.
Good, but not on the same level of excitement and traditional baking bliss, there was the rhubarb slice with the same crumble (minus caramel) on top, chunks of rhubarb on top and inside the fruit filling. Personally, I would have liked more of the sourness of rhubarb, and instead the filling was more indistinct and sweet.
The walnut bun was also very good: sticky and loaded with nuts, a hint of cinnamon, and a glaze on top that overall reminded me of a Chelsea bun. Full of flavour and good texture. Yet another recommended bakery at the Farmers Market! :)
