Grandad's Donuts is without a doubt a humble celebration of the old-school doughnut shop: a far cry from might-as-well-have-bought-a-pastry maple bacon cronuts, this is kind of what Tim Hortons used to be before they started serving everything. Suffice to say, it's all about the doughnuts. These doughnuts, make note, are mostly of the old-fashioned, cake kind. Nothing too extravagant; just classic, simple doughnuts.
The doughnuts sampled included the traditional apple and blueberry fritter, dutchie, maple vanilla, chocolate coconut, and classic sugar doughnut. Taking everything into account, they still lacked the tastiness and excitement that can be found elsewhere, even with cake doughnuts. The fritters simply couldn't compete with other places I've tried, so I would probably say the cake ones with glaze were the highlights; in general, I would say they were only slightly better than the chains: good, but I've had better.
