The bakeries in Victoria really impressed me; all very good, I didn't expect to get a pleasant surprise thrown in on top of everything else: poppy seed buns! *-* Located in the Victoria Public Market at the Hudson, this bakery has a wide range of goods that aren't just confined to French classics such as various flavours of croissants, pains au chocolat, choux pastries and heaps of meringue. Among this wide assortment, however, there was one, no two things that were just calling out to me: poppy seed buns. That's right. My favourite baked good in the most unlikely of places (they are, after all, almost exclusively found in Eastern European and German bakeries), and there were two types at that: the poppy seed brioche and the poppy seed roll (I forgot the name of the second one). It's so beautiful! ;-;
Thinking the dough would be more unique and seeing as it seemed to be more popular (I snatched the last one), I pounced on the poppy seed brioche ($3.50). The slightly crunchy glazed top "shell" teamed up with the poppy seed mass directly beneath it was delicious! Mmmm... it was only a little disappointing that this was the extent of the poppy seed; beyond this top, the dough was plain and I thought it would have been better if the poppy seed had been more folded into the bun then placed over it, so it didn't have that same wow factor all around. Still a yummy sweet bun with great texture and density, good taste -- and a great find! Hurray for poppy seed! ^-^v
