This next bakery is in Vernon. According to their story, they've been baking since the late 1800s or something like that. I think it sounds better than it really is: they mean their family, which is originally from the Netherlands. Sweet Caroline's, the actual bakery in BC's Okanagan, doesn't seem that old, but no matter what it looks like it's been around for awhile. Maybe just not centuries.
Anyways, they have a pretty big selection of mostly Canadian baking like cinnamon buns, individual and large cakes and squares in classic flavours (Black Forest, carrot, etc.), lots of cookies and muffins, and more European-inspired stuff like danishes, strudels....
I picked out three things: the cinnamon bun, carrot cake, and the Copenhagen square with apples and nuts. The cinnamon bun was good: nice and sticky with good amount of cinnamon, but probably with a little too much icing on top. I'd say the same for the carrot cake. It was good once you cut into it, but there didn't have to be so much frosting, especially swirled over the top when it was already frosted all the way around. I liked the chunky nuts on the outside, though.
I thought the Copenhagen square was good. I thought from the name that it would just be a danish, the usual one you see in bakeries with the soft dough and fruit filling right in the middle. This was a little different. It was almost like a cake or pie with the apples and nut being more like a layer between two layers of dough. Good, but not amazing.
