Jelly Modern Doughnuts is a doughnut shop that started up in Calgary and now has, in addition to two or three locations in their hometown, two locations in Toronto. Yes, I'm not seeing the connection, but a doughnut is a doughnut. And I love doughnuts. :P They do have jelly doughnuts, by the way, as well as various 'gourmet' flavours of both cake and yeast doughnuts. At least, their website shows a lot more yeast doughnuts -- my personal favourite -- than they had available at their College store. There is also the price difference: "small" doughnuts such as the ones purchased are $2.50 each, while larger ones will set you back more than $3. In the end, though, probably I would have preferred the jelly doughnut.

And so, here come the doughnuts! I got two doughnuts for trying, the carrot cake and the s'mores doughnut, because the assumption was that these two were the most transport-friendly of the bunch. This assumption proved to be false (as seen in the photos). -_____-
Of the two, the carrot cake was the best with its carrot spice dough, thick, dense swirl of cheese icing and decorative flakes of carrot. However, seeing as it was a baked cake doughnut, the question arose: if it's baked liked a carrot cake and tastes like a carrot cake, is it still a doughnut? Is the only thing making this a "doughnut" the hole in the middle? (existential doughnut philosophy)
The s'mores, on the other hand, was just a little too gooey, too sweet, and didn't have as much s'mores flavour as you would have thought. So while it boasted what looked like homemade -- or at least "gourmet" -- marshmallows and cream oozing from the centre of the doughnut and was sprinkled with graham crumbs, the dough was plain, the chocolate glaze too thinly applied, and there wasn't enough graham cracker for it to be distinguishable. It definitely didn't look like the photo online... :/

Good, but far from the best doughnuts, gourmet or otherwise, I've had. And I know and love doughnuts. :P
