Millie Patisserie, an offshot of Millie Creperie located in Kensington Market, is a small patisserie located... pretty much at a condo parking garage on a dead-end street. Yeah, at first it may feel like you got the address wrong, but it all works out in the end, right? :P
While they do sell their famous crepe cake here as well, why would you go for that when they have an interesting, yet small (made even smaller by the fact that not that much was left when I went) selection of European-inspired Japanese treats, or is it better to say Japanese-inspired European treats like airy cheesecakes, custard tarts, puddings, gelato... and that's pretty much it. Yes, you are a bit limited, but the treats they do have look lovely.
I had two items (both around $6) this time: the matcha cheesecake was a layered, torte-like creation with one layer of matcha and a bottom of houjicha (roasted green tea), surrounded by yuzu cheese cream. Or, so says the label. :P The matcha was definite, although I'm not sure I could have ever figured out what the sponge cake bottom was, even if I regularly drink houjicha. The mildly citrus tartness of the cheese was the most prominent flavour, and due to how much of it there was, it was more difficult to distinguish the other two components. Wonderful texture; light and fluffy. with good, subtle flavours.
Even better was the matcha custard tart (I think they called it a "cheese tart"). Tasty shortbread shell that could have been a little harder with a delicious, creamy green tea powder filling that was good enough to pick out and eat it in its own; if this was any indication, their ice cream must be worth trying. Mmm... this little piece of matcha heaven was so good! *-*
