The second butter tart stop is not actually featured on the butter tart tour website, similar to another earlier stop. Unlike last time, there was no indication in store that these guys are participants; however, the trays upon trays of butter tarts behind the counter seem to prove otherwise. Perhaps they anticipate butter tart tour-goers will come here, but it is a little frustrating to not... have an official butter tart stop and make use of all my snazzy graphics and whatnot. :P
Anyways, as the name indicates, Millstone Bread's priority is bread. And its oven; wood-fired, to be exact, and that's always exciting and nice to see! Perhaps there's not a lot of bread in the end, but a fair selection of artisan breads are available. In addition, there's a small selection of classic baked goods such as cookies and squares. And those butter tarts, multitudes of butter tarts. I picked the runny variety for the reason that it didn't have raisins and that I do have a soft spot for those liquid centres. Unfortunately, as is often the case, that liquid centre ran away from me and left behind nothing but the pecans. :/ Good, buttery taste, but too much shell for such a delicate filling; I tasted more dough than anything else and so, I preferred the competitor's version which was more equally distributed.
On top of that, I caved and went for the ginger cookie, because I am such a sucker for these things. This cookie, however, did not live up to its aromatic, spiced smell; the texture was too soft and crumbly for this classic variation, which should be delightfully chewy. In some ways, I should have just stuck to the butter tart, which didn't come out on top in this mini competition, but was still good in its own right.
