Oh yeah... |
The second bakery stop en route to Montreal, Sweet Tooth is located in the small town of Lancaster and for those just stopping by, it's a very convenient one to reach, just a minute or two off the highway and located in Lancaster's main "shopping" street. The bakery is fairly low-key, and sells simple classics, Canadian staples like squares and tarts at the counter as well as larger packs of cookies, squares and slab cakes (carrot) on the shelf. I was there about an hour before closing, so items were gone (a local was asking for a few things and everything was sold out), but the counter still had a few items left. Individual items, especially, are super well-priced at $1.30/each and even cheaper if you buy bulk.
Having already enough baked goods, I didn't want to go all out, but at the same time, I just could not resist the price and got two items: a butter tart (with pecans) and a date square. And it's a good thing I did! Now having two butter tarts for comparison (one from
Wolfe Island, in Kingston), I could be a better judge. And the judge(s) voted in favour of Sweet Tooth. This was an excellent butter tart (worthy of the
butter tart tour, simply not geographically) with a thin, flaky yet soft shell and a softer filling that was melt-in-your-mouth good. Mmmm...

Don't forget about that date square too! |
The date square was very good as well. This one was of the more granola style with a looser layer of granola on top and a denser bottom. Great date filling that overall was not too sweet, which is often a problem with date squares.
Overall: certainly worth the 5-minute detour to Lancaster! This is a great stop along the highway and so much worth your time and money versus those road stops. x_x
