And with this post, the Maritime (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and PEI) tour for this year comes to an end. I know, I know, good things never last long, but be comforted by the fact that I have a lot more reviews to take care of from the West. Mimi's Cake Tour never rests!

Ahem, Mrs. MacGregor's is, as the name indicates, not quite a full bakery as is usually seen on these pages. Instead, they specialize in one thing and that thing is shortbread, and various flavours of it, at that (though there are a few other items like oatcakes and some cakes available). You can even order them online! Besides their retail location in Pictou, they're also available in select shops throughout the province.

However, how well does Mrs. MacGregor know her shortbread? Deciding to try one of their unique flavours, the maple shortbread (9.50 for box of 12 mini shortbread) was the one up for sampling. Opening the bag, you could definitely smell that maple syrup; the shortbread was a little more brown than the classic unflavoured variety and had a list of simple ingredients. Taking a bite, these were some amazing shortbread. Rich, buttery dough, perfect texture for Scottish-style shortbread, with just the right hint of maple syrup. Turns out you shouldn't underestimate Mrs. MacGregor's skills. ;)
