It's not too often that one finds doughnuts a mainstay of bakeries, at least not anymore, but when they are there, they usually seem to be good. Very good. This can without a doubt be said of Pinnell's, which not only had some very good doughnuts, but might actually have some of the best -- if not the best -- doughnuts in Ontario, competing with other contenders such as Len's Bakery in Napanee and the apple fritter booth at St. Jacob's Farmer's Market. Perhaps this is a pretty big statement to start out a review, especially for simple, old-fashioned doughnuts that come in a variety of flavours, both classic and a little more out there, but then again, they do have "home of the honey dipped donut (sic)" above the name of the bakery on their sign. With such a claim, it better be good! :P
Of course I got the doughnuts, a whole bunch of them. Apple fritters, lemon doughnuts, sour cream glazed, cherry, and, perhaps the most surprising, walnut crunch (the black one), to be exact. And they were delicious! Perfectly glazed, fresh and flavourful, these are what doughnuts are supposed to taste like.
There are even better doughnuts from another, out-of-province bakery coming up in a future review (no one needs to know how many pending reviews I have), but in the words of one tester, Pinnell's is more than capable of competing at the national level. The national doughnut competition... oh yeah, when that happens, I *better* be called in as a judge! *-*
