haven't been updating my Cake Tour lately, mainly because I'm trying my
best to update my travel posts at the same time, but well, this isn't
working out so well. -.- Anyways, Høyers is the second of two (the order
I went to them) bakeries in Stege and certainly has the better
reputation (and history) of the two. Apparently, all you need to say is
"It's from Høyers" (of course, this should be said in Danish ^^;) to get
an approving, appreciative nod in return.While at bnb #2, I had my first chance to try this place and well, it was so good that a bike trip back to Stege was absolutely necessary. ;) Sadly, it was eaten so quickly that I didn't have the chance to take a picture -- and I'm always so reluctant to do so before strangers. Nonetheless, one day, as I was sitting finishing my lunch, a visitor came with two strawberry tarts (price unknown) which were then split into three pieces (as shameless as it sounds, I am SO happy I was there at the right time): crispy, buttery shell coated in a thin layer of dark chocolate, filled with a heaping mass of whipped cream (the Danes, it seems, particularly love their whipped cream ^^) and topped with juicy Danish strawberries. Mmm... so good!
On my second visit, I came a little late in the afternoon and was actually really fortunate to grab myself some delicious "Vienna bread"! And at 11kr each, this came at an amazing price and sure beat Copenhagen in terms of prices. (and taste!) :/ Nonetheless, this was a great spandauer! I can't say it looked too appetizing -- the yellow icing on top, a little reminiscent of snot, was especially unappealing in my opinion, but it made up for it with its taste. Excellent layered, buttery dough, which is quite possibly the best thing after a bike ride, and actually really good icing, I just can't say I liked the jam filling, which was more jello-like than good, fruity marmalade. I noticed this at another place and didn't like it. So, the jam spoiled it a little bit... couldn't give it a perfect rating for that. (Sorry, Høyers! ;) but I loved you besides that.. :P
