Here come, as of yet, some of the most obscure entries on the World Tour. :) Earlier this month, I spent five or so weeks on the small, east Danish island of Møn and while the selection of bakeries are few and far between, guess who was there to chronicle pretty much all of them (if you exclude a few in the supermarkets)? ;) And yes, I do realize this won't help many people out, but hey! the main point of the Cake Tour is to be able to say: I came, I saw, I ate. ;D
Nonetheless, my first trip to Stege involved popping into this place, although it seems to be the newer and lesser known of the two bakeries, but it was the first one I came to (when you walk from the bridge, at any rate). Google and the old guides to Stege give the name of a different place, so Din Bager must be only a few years old, at the most. After Copenhagen's rather disappointing results (and sadly, this applied to my return trip as well), Din Bager came as a ridiculously well-priced (though I was a little surprised to find that Høyer's Konditori, Møn's established pastry shop, was cheaper, hence the $$ price point in there) delicious... gift from the heavens! ;)
Reasonably priced with items properly labelled and easily visible, these guys have, like a majority of bakeries, all the Danish classics and I picked one of them: a kanelsnegl (i.e. a cinnamon swirl // 12kr) with wonderful buttery, layered dough that was soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside, like it was supposed to be, and a generous amount of (more) buttery cinnamon filling. Super moist and just a dab here and there of still soft icing. Mmmmm.... I hadn't had baked goods in about a week at this point and this was so good and freshly bought. Who would think that Stege would have such delicious places to visit (especially since the second bakery was equally yummy!) -- I certainly didn't (sorry Stege)? Whoa, what a find and what a difficult decision choosing between the two!*-*
