The second in my unplanned Streetsville bakery tour (thank you to my supplier for both ^^), Cake Royale was once recommended to me -- so long ago I'm almost ashamed to admit it! my apologies -- by a very nice visitor to my site (all my visitors are nice, but the very nice ones leave comments :P). It's a more upscale pastry shop specializing in cakes both large and small; in some ways, it's one of very few in the city and home to probably the most accomplished cake 'creations' in Mississauga. Items range from individual cakes, tarts and those darn cupcakes (as of now known as the c-word) to larger treats for sharing. These include classics like chocolate cake and some lesser known and unique flavours like mango or Dobos torte.
Personally, I'm surprised that the one in charge didn't buy the latter, it being a regular favourite, but instead went for the mango mousse dome, which was the highlight of the purchase: fluffy mango mousse with a hint of tartness and an adorable exterior. Some more dough would have been nice, but it had to have beat out any another mango product I've tried. Great texture and none of that... artificiality you can encounter with Chinese mango mousse cakes.
The second item was a chocolate tart; extreme chocolate tart, rather. ;) Rich, dark chocolate shell with a generous, decadent filling. Well... I took one look at this and knew it wasn't for me. Far, far too overwhelming and sweet with no relief in terms of flavours and richness. It felt like I just ate twenty chocolate bars in one sitting and that felt a little like... I should really be ashamed of myself. :P Good quality chocolate, without a doubt, but simply too much of it.
Well, this was pretty good... I'm not quite sure why/how it took me so long to give this a try. My apologies to the suggester; in the end, it was a worthy suggestion. :)
